What is this event?
A week long, faith based, family centered homeschool family retreat providing creation/Biblical worldview nature study on the island of Maui Hawaii all taught by the amazing Nikki Farmer- @the.ocean.farmer We'll enjoy learning time, organized activities and family free time along with the opportunity to find community with like minded families are all provided within the week!

What ages can attend?
Any homeschool family with kids senior year and below (school age and younger). Learning will be based on the average age of most children. With that said, and as of now, learning is planned to be family style and geared towards ages 12/13 and older. The beauty of family style lessons is that kids of all ages benefit from gleaning from the lessons and field trips. All of this while getting to be immersed in a 'one room school house' type environment with all ages of kids.
Also the daily free time provides ample opportunity for new friendships to be formed!
Who we are

Derek and Lindsay are a homeschooling family of 7 with 2 homeschool graduates and another one graduating this spring!
We are in our 19th year of homeschooling and follow an interest led, living books centered, faith based approach to education. We have traveled extensively over the past 10 years in an effort to bring learning alive for our children. We pair rich living books with location based learning along with the everyday rhythm that home education provides.
Although I am not a certified teacher, I am a mom who loves providing an invitation for my children to love learning. And, I'm excited to extend that invitation to your family.
Our heart is to provide a location based opportunity to help cultivate a love for Gods creation in a family centered atmosphere surrounded by other likeminded, believing families.

I'm Nikki Farmer, a wife of 25 years and mom to two adult kiddos. I grew up in the country in Tennessee and have always loved creation. From ducks and rabbits to raising an orphaned baby deer, I was often begging my dad to keep or get some sort of critter.
When we would go on vacation to the beach, I can remember being so excited to see the white sand and smell the salty air along the gulf coast of Florida, knowing we were so close to the ocean. The beach has always been a special place to me, and not just because I love the sunshine on my skin, but because of all of God‘s creation that can be found there.
I went to college to become a teacher, and I’ve been in both public and Christian schools. However, my heart for education is mostly found in the homeschool world, as we started homeschooling our kids when we moved to Maui.
A few years back, I updated my middle school science teaching license, and I was reminded again of why I chose CREATION science. I was simply memorizing information that I didn’t believe was true in order to pass those tests to renew my license. This is the information that is being taught in schools around the world.
My goal is to share my passion for the Lord‘s creation and point people to him as creator and Savior, while (hopefully) inspiring more excitement of learning about creation!
We currently live in Middle Tennessee and visit the beach as often as possible, with Maui being a very special place for us, as we lived there for a season and fell in love with the culture, people, and creation there.
I’m so excited to share about God’s amazing creation on the island of Maui!
What to expect?
5 days of learning right on the beach including:
4 mornings of hands on, creation based, ocean learning. This will be family style learning and geared to middle and high school children. Younger kids are absolutely welcome to join and be apart but the lessons will be more in depth than elementary lessons.
4 afternoons family free time or choice to join organized, group activities.
1 day organized field trip & group hang out time
4 nights of evening activities including fellowship, worship night, family game night, and more to be announced!
Sample day:
+8:30 meet at Maluaka Beach picnic tables
+Learn about opihi and urchins of Maui
+Walk to semi secret beach and explore to tide pools to find different urchins
+Swim and snorkel at Maluaka, one of the most beautiful beaches on Maui
+Head to Island Gourmet Market at Shops of Wailea for a locals favorite ‘fast food’ - spam masubi.
+Family free time- hang out at Maluaka beach with other families or head on your own family adventure
+5:30 bring your own dinner and meet at the beach to enjoy dinner, sunset and worship together on the beach
What is the cost and what is included in the cost?
$250 per family base fee +
$550 per student
The per student fee applies to any child preschool and older
This fee covers all learning time, snorkel & mask, organized activities, and included field trips.
We will also have at least one additional family excursion as an add on option for the additional cost of the activity.
Five days of hands on, creation based, ocean learning based on ocean life found right there on the island of Maui.

What is included that money cant buy?
Community + connection with like minded families.
It's amazing how Jesus and Homeschooling can bring families together to become instant friends!
What about accomodations?
We have 2 options this year:
Find accommodations on your own.
We’ll provide the general area where we recommend everyone stay.
We provide the booking option for you.
The goal is to find a group booking so most, if not all, families can stay on the same property and enjoy evenings and pool time together.

Meals and transportation
All food is on your own. There will be opportunity to eat together for lunches and dinner.
All transportation costs are assumed by you including flights and rental car.
